How you help As a volunteer, not only will you know you’ve helped change someone’s life, you’ll develop a stronger sense of community. It’s the little things–from washing cushions to donating time or expertise to driving to pick up a chair–that make a big difference.
About us In 1993, two courageous gentlemen founded Alternatives in Motion, hoping to meet the West Michigan community’s growing need for mobility equipment and repair services. After the brother-in-law of founder George Ranville, a Grand Rapids native, got into a tragic accident, George struggled to help his brother attain proper–but expensive–equipment and saw in this an opportunity to help the disabled community. The new nonprofit began raising money and making its cause known, believing access to mobility equipment is the path to independence for those in need. Since then, Alternatives in Motion, which remains entirely funded by independent donations, has continued to grow and strives to keep up with the need for mobility equipment.
