About us DICSA Earns Michigan Works 2016 Business of the Year DICSA wrote for and received a grant in 2016 to design and offer an Employability Skills Workshop. The simple idea led to unexpected dividends. In collaboration with our local Michigan Works Office, we put together a program covering soft skills, completing applications, building solid resumes, writing good letters, improving interview styles, and presenting a positive image through technology. Three Employability Skills Workshops were held in spring and summer and all positive feedback was received. The project is now in the process of being expanded and intensified under a collaborative effort with the Dickinson Iron Great Start Collaborative, Dickinson Area Chamber Alliance, Northern Lights YMCA, DICSA and Michigan Works. The expectation is to offer the first four-part Employability Certification Training in April of 2017 with a panel of local leaders sharing their expertise. Sponsorships are being sought to cover the costs and the project will be self-sustaining into the future. DICSA’s Employability Skills Workshop was the catalyst that led to us being selected as the Michigan Works Business of the Year for 2016. While we have partnered with Michigan Works for several years to help us advertise job openings, this new opportunity helped our two offices forge a more solid working relationship. Our partnership and collaboration led to a nomination for Business of the Year. DICSA was presented with the award and recognized at the annual Dickinson Area Chamber Alliance dinner. We are proud to have been selected and grateful to the work of our staff, board and volunteers who are the reason DICSA makes a difference in our community year after year.
