Ways to help

Help Lines

Volunteers on our Help Lines work directly with clients to assist them with their emergency needs. This involves collecting information, explaining services, determining whether the client meets initial requirements for assistance, and/or matching clients with community resources. Our volunteers usually commit to one morning a week from 9:30 AM to noon. We can also use volunteers to fill in from time to time.

Fundraising / Event Planning

Do you like putting together events? Is coming up with a theme one of your favorite things to do? We need some resourceful people who’d like to volunteer their time and ingenuity. You can help with existing events, pioneer a new event, or put on an event through your own group or organization to benefit Friends In Deed and its services and programs.

Circles Volunteer

Circles Washtenaw County is a comprehensive 18-month program designed to lift low-income families out of poverty by bringing people together throughout the community. Sound interesting? There are a lot of ways you can get involved. In addition to becoming an Ally, you can volunteer to help out at one of the program’s Tuesday-night meetings by providing a meal, becoming a greeter, donating much-needed supplies, offering your expertise or simply giving someone a ride.

Furniture

While we have several areas in which you can volunteer your time, we are always in need of people who can help us pick up and deliver furniture. If you have a group of 3-to-5 people, you can take our 12-foot cube truck and work with our furniture coordinator to make up a route. We can also put you on our furniture volunteer list and call you on a route-by-route basis as we need people.

How you help Friends In Deed is always in need of volunteers to assist us in our mission.
About us Friends In Deed has been around for a while. For over 35 years, we’ve worked to help our neighbors in need by filling in the cracks of assistance offered by other organizations and nonprofits in the community. In recent years, we expanded our focus. While we still have two program areas that help stabilize families in crisis, we now have a third program that focuses on building community to end poverty: our Direct Assistance Program helps families prevent utility shut off, repair a car to get to work or medical appointments, obtain a prescription or other one-time medical need and more; our Furniture Program helps families obtain basic-needs furniture, including beds, kitchen tables and chairs, couches, etc; and our Circles Program focuses on helping families to lift themselves out of poverty.
