Construction

Though the vast majority of volunteers have no construction experience or building skills, volunteers are involved in most phases of construction. By working side-by-side with the family who will live in the house, our volunteers experience for themselves the joy created when a family is able to realize their dream of home ownership.

How you help We welcome people from all walks of life to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with God and families in need. Though the vast majority of volunteers have no construction experience or building skills, volunteers are involved in most phases of construction.
About us Founded in 1990, Genesee County Habitat for Humanity (Genesee Habitat) is one of nearly 1,200 United States affiliates of Habitat for Humanity International, founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, with the vision of eliminating poor housing conditions and homelessness from the world. Since then, Habitat for Humanity has maintained that vision by incorporating both housing and community development in its mission of building homes, communities and hope. As an affiliate, Genesee Habitat yearly builds or rehabs 8-10 affordable homes in Genesee County, provides approximately 100 Genesee County homeowners with critical repair services, and invests in numerous neighborhood projects throughout the City of Flint. Genesee Habitat also operates the ReStore, which offers greatly discounted new or slightly used household items to the public, diverting 300 tons a year from Genesee County landfills. Additionally, in partnership with LISC, Genesee Habitat opened the Financial Opportunity Center, where Genesee County residents can receive financial coaching and job preparedness assistance, free of charge.
