Warbler. Van Tyne befriended Harold Mayfield, which led to Mayfield's interest in Kirtland's. Van Tyne's proposed monograph on the Kirtland's Warbler, which never came about because of his early death, was the inspiration for Harold Mayfield's book.
Happy Birthday Josselyn Van Tyne (11 May 1902–30 January 1957). Van Tyne was an international ornithologist, professor, and curator of the UM Museum of Zoology, and editor of the Wilson Bulletin. His friendship with Norman Wood led to 25 years of field studies on the Kirtland's
