Ways to help

Working Backstage

It takes many people to run each production, from lights to stage crew, to set and costume construction. If you have a specific skill, such as sewing or painting, you will be led by experienced volunteer chairs. If you are brand new to theatre, you can choose to work on a specific project for a production, with other volunteers training and guiding you.

Volunteering at Performances

What we call “Front of House” encompasses many areas and is one of the most common ways that volunteers become involved in the theatre. You might choose to be an usher or if you have computer skills, you can learn our Box Office system and help sell tickets.

Being on Stage

Come audition for a production! Don’t be worried that you don’t have years of experience or formal training, that’s where most OTP actors started too! Check out a perusal script from the Business Office and become familiar with a show and then come to auditions. If you audition for a musical, you will be asked to sing, but you can choose something familiar and many people have auditioned with “Happy Birthday!”

Other Areas

Running an organization with over 100 performances each year is challenging and we are constantly working to improve our organization and share information in our community about the activities of the Old Town Playhouse and the OTP Young Company. We have a Volunteer committee which meets monthly; a variety of committees that organize special events; and we frequently need assistance preparing for an event, or organizing our office, library and OTP facilities.
