How you help The more volunteer mentors recruited, the more students we are able to assist in the program. Volunteer mentors work one on one with children in a structured program. Children who participate in the READ program experience positive outcomes such as increased reading time and improved reading ability and academic performance. In addition to reading with students, volunteers provide a caring person in a child's life, focus on individual strengths and development of the positive self esteem of each child, help improve the critical skills needed to become independent learners and foster a love of books.
About us The READ Association of Saginaw County is a local initiative started in 1966 in response to a high correlation between juvenile delinquency, poverty and illiteracy. One out of every three children find reading one of the most difficult tasks that they ever have to master.
