Ways to help

Lights

Members and volunteers who wish to design lights as well as those who wish to run lights for particular productions. We often have members who will mentor a new person in the lights area. People with lighting interests may also choose to run spotlights for productions that require that kind of lighting. Tasks include ensuring there are ample supplies of gels and other items required for each production. Members may be called upon to run lights for rental groups at the theatre.

Memberships

We work hard to make all new members (and volunteers) feel welcome and valued as part of our organization. We schedule new member events but also members are encouraged to attend social and business meetings of Stagecrafters. We attempt to identify interests, talents and skills so that our members and volunteers can assist us in meeting Stagecrafters’ goals, both in our productions and in the community – while they have fun and form new friendships.

Builders Guild

The Builders Guild is dedicated to the design and build of sets, scenery and drops for our productions. We provide input to the leadership re: technical and tool capability needs, space considerations, and storage options. The work is typically scheduled in the weeks preceding a show, coordinating with the Set Designer and Master Carpenter to ensure we provide appropriate skillsets, manpower and even necessary training, depending upon the vision and scope of the build. We appreciate any interest, especially encouraging persons with skills in carpentry and custom fabrication—or an interest in learning on-the-job-- to join us in making the Baldwin stage come alive!

Properties

The objective of people who work on props is to maintain the props room in an orderly manner so items are easier to find. A props representative is present at each show's set strike in the prop room to ascertain what props are to be stored and where. We provide orientation to properties storage area for new members/volunteers. We hold regular meetings and work sessions and also offer training and growth opportunities.

Education & Training

Members of this committee brainstorm different ways that we can help the membership/volunteers become more informed and interested in various areas of Stagecrafters. We set up workshops with a variety of topics and representatives for those topics (i.e. - lights, sound, directing, producing, costumes, makeup, tech, stage managing, assistant stage managing...) where attendees can learn and ask questions in a relaxed atmosphere. Events are set with dates and times; then make sure that the info is advertised in the Member Broadcast, at least one month prior to the event, inviting members and volunteers to participate. (There may be a fee for volunteers).

Makeup

Members or volunteers may design make-up for productions, according to the vision of the director. Or, they may apply make-up for specific performances. Tasks include ensuring ample inventory of make-up supplies to meet the needs of individual productions or the season as a whole. We assist production teams in reaching people who would like to design makeup, or apply it, for their productions. We reach out to members or volunteers who express interest in learning more about theater makeup and application.

He/she may assist the BVP in acquiring supplies and equipment needed for building maintenance.

Hospitality

House Managers work with ushers to make each patron’s visit pleasant, comfortable and safe. They greet and seat audience members, serve refreshments and prepare the auditorium and lobby for the next performance. We are trained to be ambassadors for Stagecrafters and in resolving issues which may arise, such as duplicate tickets, and provide assistive hearing devices, pillows, or whatever makes the patron feel welcome and valued. House managers and ushers are encouraged to receive training on the use of our AED machine.

Historical/Archives

We work closely with production teams and marketing in the collection and organization of written articles, documents, and other materials relevant to the history of Stagecrafters and the Baldwin Theatre, in an orderly and systematic way so they are easily accessible, especially for Stagecrafters events. We hold meetings/work sessions twice a year, or as needed.

Costumers may design and create (“build”), rent or buy costumes, depending types of costumes required (animals), period and vision of the director. Sound

We design and/or run sound for productions, including orchestra, vocals, dialogue and sound effects. We mix sound to achieve the best possible delivery to the audience. We maintain microphones, cords, speakers and other supplies in the sound room. We ensure security of the equipment in the sound room when working on a production. Experienced sound people provide orientation and, often, mentoring of new sound people.
