Ways to help youth thrive

TrueMentors

Volunteers, ages 18 and older, are matched with Newaygo County youth, between the ages of 5 and 14, in a one-to-one mentoring relationship for a minimum of a one year commitment. Matches meet about four times each month and spend a minimum of eight hours each month together. Matches determine scheduling that works best for them to spend time together. Mentees are in grades K-4th and mentors are Hesperia Middle and High School students. Matches meet every Monday afternoon from 4-5 pm throughout the school year.  TrueMentors Parks in Focus is an outdoor based group mentoring program. The purpose is to connect youth to nature through photography. We take an annual week long camping trip to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, as well as shorter local trips to State Parks and public lands throughout the year.
