Volunteers with sewing skills at all levels are needed to help Michigan Mask Up! Volunteers are needed throughout the state of Michigan to lend their sewing skills to sew masks for children and adults. As the pandemic continues, the need is still incredibly great in communities across the state.   The Michigan Community Service Commission, the state’s lead agency on volunteerism, has thousands of ready to sew kits. Our hope is to engage individuals with the ability to do simple sewing and provide them with bundles of masks to go to organizations in their own communities. These organizations include those supporting children in foster care or group homes, nursing homes, daycares, head start programs and any other organizations supporting adults or children. We will help you get connected to an organization(s) to accept the masks if you do not have one in mind already.   Masks will be mailed to your home in bundles of 100 or more. The masks take beginner to average skill to sew and after getting the hang of it, each mask takes about five minutes to complete. The thread is not included and the cost for the thread ranges from about $1 to $3 depending on your preference and colors are medium grey or navy blue.   If you have questions, please email [email protected] To request masks, please use the following link to gather your mailing information and we’ll keep you updated on when your masks will arrive (typically 3-5 days).
